The Gilliam Postcards are a digital collection of approximately 250 postcards dating from the 1900s to the 1970s from sights in nearly 35 different Kentucky towns and cities and the 1915 tornado. It has been created thanks in part to grant funding from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. The purpose of this digital collection is to make local history images freely available for use in educational, personal or scholarly research or instruction. Most of the images on the front of the postcards fall into Public Domain and may be used without restriction. Please cite these images appropriately as you would other research sources. The preferred citation is: Gilliam Collection, Eva G. Farris Special Collections, W. Frank Steely Library, Northern Kentucky University. It is also included in the Rights field for each postcard.
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code) governs the reproduction of copyrighted material. All reasonable efforts were made to identify and contact copyright holders for those postcard images not in the Public Domain. The need for further copyright permission will depend upon how images are used. The Rights Statement for the copyrighted images will provide additional information about the copyright holder. Any commercial use will require contacting the rights holder for permission. Ultimate responsibility for copyright compliance rests with the person reproducing postcard images.
The W. Frank Steely Library is interested in hearing from any copyright holders who are not properly identified so that appropriate information may be provided in the future.
These postcards are part of a larger collection which can be seen in the Special Collections and Archives Department.
